Case studies from the DESIRE Project
The ESPON DESIRE project singled out five types of services, namely: education (primary and secondary; health (primary, outpatient and preventive care); social care (childcare, elderly care); regional public transport (ensuring access to work); and retail accessibility (although this is not per se a public service) which were addressed in the case studies:
- The five longer case studies (Latvia, Hungary, Spain, Finland and Ireland) examine in-depth how public service delivery is adapted to the needs of the specific territories, and how the organization of public service provision is enabling good quality of life and reducing inequalities
and
- 32 shorter case studies from all over Europe describe practical solutions in service delivery. To facilitate the collection of shorter examples, ESPON EGTC and the Hungarian Presidency team distributed a survey among the NTCCP members, the ESPON 2030 Monitoring Committee members and the ESPON Contact Points. The survey results provided a lot of insightful examples and information that were used to produce the short case studies.
