What are the EU presidencies?
The EU Council Presidency is a rotating leadership position. Every six months, a different EU member state chairs the meetings of the Council of the EU, which is one of the main decision-making bodies of the EU alongside the European Parliament. The Presidency sets its own agenda and priorities, ensures the smooth operation of the Council, and agreement on proposed legislation.
How is ESPON supporting the work of the Presidencies?
ESPON is working together with the EU Council Presidencies, offering a wide range of services to support their work and help them implement their political priorities in the field of territorial cohesion:
- advice based on evidence and data already produced by different ESPON projects
- on-demand services in the form of dedicated studies, publications and workshops
- the ESPON Week, which is composed of internal meetings and an international seminar focusing on the presidency’s priorities
- one issue of the TerritoriALL ESPON magazine dedicated to the same topic as the ESPON Week.
- Participation in the different meetings of the Territorial Agenda Working Group (TAWG), National Territorial Cohesion Contact Points (NTCCP), Directors-General for Territorial Cohesion (DGTC)
