The event is split into two sessions:
Morning Session: Navigating Distrust and Reinforcing Expertise
The morning session will address the pressing issues of political distrust and the declining role of expertise in policymaking.
- Keynote Speech: A distinguished speaker will explore the challenges of political distrust, the critical role of evidence-based governance in combating regional and territorial inequalities, and strategies to bolster public trust in science.
- High-Level Panel Discussion: Following the keynote, a panel of esteemed academics and decision-makers will engage in a robust discussion on the growing political discontent and public distrust in scientific expertise. The panel will explore innovative approaches to bridge the gap between territorial research and policymaking.
Afternoon Sessions: Unveiling New Research Frontiers
In the afternoon three engaging sessions will allow researchers to present and discuss cutting-edge ideas, evidence, and research avenues that extend beyond the current ESPON 2030 Programme. These sessions aim to provide policymakers at all levels across Europe with science-based insights on territorial development and cohesion.
Discussions may evolve around topics such as:
- Megatrends and research challenges impacting European territories.
- Gaps in territorial research, data, or policy.
- Innovative approaches to science communication and data visualization.
Presenters have been selected through a call for abstracts that was published earlier this year and selected researchers will have the opportunity to present and discuss their innovative ideas and research proposals.
The conference will take place in a film studio in Brussels, providing a professional and engaging environment, while the audience will be able to follow and interact online.
